In the European Christian tradition, December 6th is St. Nicholas' day.
He pronounced judgment on the children, tested them on their catechism, and rewarded their performance either with a gift or by punishment from his lackey, KRAMPUS. In Germany, this lackey is known as Knecht Ruprecht; but Krampus is an original Austrian figure.
